Dear Friends -
Four years ago, I decided to run for School Board because our School District was in desperate need of change. With the help of teachers,
parents, students, and community leaders, the community chose me to represent them on the School Board.
Today, I am proud to say we have made significant progress-our students are directly benefiting from my leadership,
which has brought about a more cohesive and effective School Board. Test scores have improved, our new Superintendent
is providing strong educational leadership and voters recently passed Prop A, which allows us to retain high quality
teachers. Together, we have laid the groundwork for change and it is time to see these changes in action.
There is more work to be done. Our city is undergoing great change, and nowhere do we see it more than in our schools.
Demographic shifts and an exodus of families leaving our great City require us to take a good, hard look at who our district
is serving and how well we are meeting their specific needs. Our District needs leadership that will build on the positive
momentum we have created over the past four years and move us forward in the right direction.
That is why I am running for re-election and I am once again asking for your support. Please join me in galvanizing
San Francisco voters this November to ensure that our City's schools get the dedicated and qualified leadership they deserve.
Best wishes,
Sincerely,
Candidate for School Board

"In his tenure on the School Board Norman Yee has worked to bring consensus to the board, successfully transitioning the
district to a new superintendent, and working to bring additional resources to our schools. He also brings many years of
experience in early childhood development."

News
"... Yee is a soft-spoken go-between, credited with helping to calm the once-fractious board. He is a reasonable, capable listener, no small thing in a world riven with special interests, frequent crises and strong personalities."
San Francisco Chronicle, October 20, 2008
"Norman Yee, the only incumbent we're endorsing, has been something of a mediator and a calming influence on an often-contentious board. He helped push for the 2006 facilities bond and the parcel tax to improve teacher pay. He's helped raise $1 million from foundations for prekindergarten programs. He suggests that the district take the radical (and probably necessary) step of suing the state to demand adequate funding for education....He deserves another term."
San Francisco Bay Guardian, October 8, 2008
"San Francisco has seen an improvement in our public schools. That is a direct
result of Norman Yee's leadership and his ability to build consensus among School Board members."
Mayor Gavin Newsom
